diet plan for cancer patients
TORONTO, ON (November 20, 2017) - Many patients struggling with cancer face difficult times. Sometimes they have to decide whether or not to join a cancer treatment retreat that offers healthy recipes and helpful guidance to remain positive and support their loved ones.
A new program, CAROINT OFFERING (COOL FOR CANCER), is helping patients take control of their lives with the proper meals. For more than a decade, the SABCC Cancer Survivorship Program (now the CAROINT OFFERING) has provided patients and their families with evidence-based recipe preparation and nutritional education.
With a stress-free, mind-numbingly simple approach, COOL FOR CANCER provides a variety of meal ideas that promote physical, emotional and spiritual wellness. There is something about the encouragement of comfort foods that can open up a world of possibility for cancer patients.
"We always find patients' faces light up when they hear these words: 'My tummy is healed and this meal is delicious, much more energizing than watching a bad documentary,' or 'I am healthy enough to eat healthy dishes while being treated at hospital, this helps me relax and make me feel happy,'" said Serge Bélanger, MD, PhD, Research Professor at Saint Joseph's Villa (in Quebec City) Cancer Institute.
Within a few days of cancer treatment, it is more important than ever to support patients and their families with a meal that is not only healthy but in a stylish, appealing and creative package. In that spirit, many SACVIMODG and CANVAS physicians come up with new recipes on a regular basis. Most of the recipes are part of the 19 recipes for Healthy Plate (see menu 2) from the CDE (Cultural Delightable Eating) Kit Collection (see menu 1).

TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR HEALTH
SSABCC CANVAS and CANAVAS physicians work together to help patients with cancer lead healthier lives. Each program operates in eight regions across Ontario with the support of the Canadian Cancer Society. The work of scientists at SACVIMODG and CANAVAS creates innovative therapeutic options for cancer patients. Nutrition education and a wide range of meal preparation techniques have been proven to support cancer patients in cancer therapy.
After both the CANAVAS Cancer Survivorship Program and the COOL FOR CANCER program leave the hospital and return home, patients and their families seek a variety of meals with all of their meals. The time, effort and stress involved can be taxing. Nutrition education is an important aspect of a cancer treatment retreat. By providing patients with recipes from CAROINT OFFERING, Nutrition professionals provide food they will enjoy, creating an even greater sense of joy for their family and medical team.
